Overview

Take a private 3-Day Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga and journey deep into the Sahara Desert at your own pace. This shared group tour is Morocco's most popular desert route — and for good reason. In three full days you'll cross the High Atlas Mountains via the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka pass, explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of Aït Ben Haddou, wind through the lush Dades and Todra gorges, and arrive at the legendary Erg Chebbi dunes in time for a sunset camel ride.

Departing daily from Marrakech at 7:30 am, you'll travel in a comfortable air-conditioned 4WD or minivan with a licensed English-speaking driver-guide. The small group format keeps the experience personal without the price tag of a private tour. Breakfast, dinner, and all accommodation are included — all you need to bring is your sense of wonder.

A night in a luxury tented camp under a canopy of Sahara stars caps day two, with live Gnawa music around the fire and a private bathroom in your tent. The third day brings a pre-dawn dune climb for the sunrise before the long, scenic drive back through the Atlas to Marrakech.

Tour Highlights

  • Night in a luxury glamping tent with private bathroom and Gnawa music under the stars

Day-by-Day Itinerary

DAY 1
Marrakech → High Atlas → Aït Ben Haddou → Dades Gorge
Tizi n'Tichka Pass · UNESCO Ksar · Rose Valley · Ouarzazate

Departure from Marrakech at 7:30 am. We climb through the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m), with panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and Berber villages clinging to the hillsides. We stop at the UNESCO World Heritage ksar of Aït Ben Haddou — a fortified earthen city used as a backdrop for films from Lawrence of Arabia to Game of Thrones.

Continuing through Ouarzazate ("Hollywood of Morocco"), we follow the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs through the saffron and rose-growing Dadès Valley. Dinner and overnight at a traditional riad guesthouse in Boumalne Dades.

DAY 2
Dades Gorge → Todra Gorge → Erg Chebbi Dunes (Merzouga)
Canyon Walks · Hammada Plateau · Camel Ride · Desert Camp

After breakfast we drive into the dramatic Dades Gorge — a narrow canyon of rust-red rock carved by the Dades River. We continue east to the magnificent Todra Gorge, where sheer limestone walls rise 300 metres from the riverbed. A short walk through the canyon before crossing the hammada plateau toward Merzouga.

Arriving in late afternoon, you mount your camel for a magical sunset ride into the dunes. Dinner, live Gnawa music around the fire, and a night in a luxury glamping tent with a private bathroom, beneath one of the darkest skies in Morocco.

Optional stop at a Berber village or women's argan cooperative before the long, scenic drive back across the Atlas to Marrakech, arriving around 7:00–8:00 pm. Drop-off at your riad or a central point in the medina.

"Absolutely magical. Our guide Hassan was incredibly knowledgeable about Berber culture and history. The desert camp was far more luxurious than expected — private bathroom, proper beds, and the best tagine I've ever had. The sunrise from the dunes is worth the entire trip alone. Already recommending this to everyone."

"Travelling solo and slightly nervous, but this was the perfect intro to Morocco. The small group of 9 felt like old friends by day 2. Aït Ben Haddou exceeded all expectations — do the full climb up to the top granary. Book this tour, you won't regret it. Flawless organisation from start to finish."

"We did this as our honeymoon extension and couldn't have asked for more. The Gnawa music under the stars, the camel ride, the gorges — all beyond beautiful. The team were responsive and flexible when our train was delayed. Perfect experience, perfect price."

"The value for money is remarkable — easily the best €269 I've ever spent. Three full days, every meal included, incredible accommodation, and a guide who genuinely loves his country and its stories. The Todra Gorge walk was a surprise highlight. Already planning to return for the private tour."
